After her amazing two-page interview AVN ran with Sienna Sinclaire earlier this year, it’s fitting that she would be signing at the magazine’s booth this weekend at the eXXXotica Expo.

XCritic Bitch Slaps Digital Playground

I think it’s probably not a surprise to many that I love Jesse Jane and Riley Steele. I think they are probably two of the most beautiful people in the adult business so when I seen Xcritic posted a new review about them, I couldn’t wait to read it. Imagine my surprise when they rated the movie 2 out of 5 stars and then recommend readers not even bothering buying it.

My first thing is wow, DP must have really dropped the ball in production values here to make a movie THAT bad. I mean hell Bill Fisher and the likes have made some horrible movies. One time he hired a hooker for $50 off of the street and filmed the nasty girl and xcritic rated that movie higher than this one.

So I had to read the summary just to see what was so bad about this movie that it got such a horrible rating.

Turns out the answer was that the reviewer felt the girls were to skinny and the sex was to aggressive to them …. in a movie named Power Fuck : Fast and Furious – which in the title implies it is aggressive sex. So to punish a movie for being the type of sex of the genre is just ridiculous. I was like wow, the reviewer trashed a movie about aggressive sex, for having aggressive sex. That totally makes sense!

I’ve read more than a few reviews at xcritic and one time I read “the sex was great but …”. I was like wait …. what? There is no but. This is porn. Really does ANYTHING beyond great sex matter? Do you really care if a girl wears pink or black or you would rather her be in a more natural setting? -rolls eyes-

So at this point I couldn’t help but get a chuckle. Not because of what I was reading, but instead because at that exact moment I was on a conference call with a client who decided not to advertise with xcritic. While xcritic hasn’t given any bad reviews for this client, they have been trashing many others lately and in some cases for no apparent reason. I mentioned this review, where they advised their visitors not to buy this movie because the girls were to skinny and the sex was to aggressive in a film that was about aggressive sex and that was that. It seems the theory is, if they are so quick to turn on other companies for no apparent reason, who is to say they won’t do the same to us later on down the line?

In the end, I’m not going to tell other people who I don’t know how to run their business but I will say in today’s economy with ad rates going down the tubes, is it really a good idea to allow your reviewers to post reviews unchecked?

I’m not trying to imply that you can’t post honest reviews, if the movie is bad, then I get it. But after reading that review and more than a few more, it seems like to me, sometimes the reviewer sounds a little jaded by their years of watching far far to many movies. Their jaded bitterness is now affecting your bottom line.

So I guess the question really is, who did someone at Digital Playground piss off to get a review like that?

Fame Registry Announces New Award Category

Fame Registry recently announced the nominees for their annual awards.  Today they announced a previously unknown category to the awards.  This one is called

The Sexy Webmistress Award

The sexy webmistress award is based on the overall popularity of the porn star’s website however the website must be actually run by the porn star herself … while sure she may hire a graphics artist here and there or a programmer to do some things but in the end, the site is one she runs herself and this winner will be selected based on the one who did her job best and ran the most popular official website. Again remember this is based on data collected during 2010.

I asked for clarification in this specific category and was told that while it is more than understandable that no one person can know everything, or do everything themselves, meaning – it is more than understandable that sometimes porn stars may hire a guy to do graphics here and there or perhaps some SEO or maybe to edit their videos for them but in the end, there is a difference between a site actually run by a porn star and those farmed out to networks like Blazing Bucks or Premium Cash or whatever.    It’s not to say there is anything wrong with that, it’s just that this award is specifically for those who run their own sites.

Beware of making cross sale deals with Penthouse or AFF

You would assume that now that Adult Friend Finder is owned by Penthouse you wouldn’t still be hearing about them scamming people still, but you would be wrong.   After what I heard today, it really makes one think twice now about having anything to do with any division of Penthouse, not just the blatant scammers like Adult Friend Finder.  I really thought much more highly of Penthouse … well, until now.  I guess looking back on it, when I heard the story on TMZ about Penthouse being busted for hiring men to pretend like they are women online, and they have been doing it since the day they launched their site, duping who knows how many thousands and thousands of consumers into thinking they were talking to real women, that I should have suspected they were just as shady as AFF but for some reason I just had more faith in the Penthouse brand.

There is a thing in the adult industry known as cross sales.   A lot of times these cross sale deals are made in a sort of, you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours kind of deal.

In short, website A offers a consumer the opportunity to join website B for a great discount, sometimes free for 1 to 3 days, sometimes for just a $1.  In return website B pays website A a kickback or commission of typically $20 to $25.  Website B is banking on the fact that the consumer in question will love their website so much they will stay a member and in return, they will make their money back on the full membership price and any recurring months they may stay a member after that.

Sounds simple enough, right?  Well really it is, but the problem with this system is when you have a company like Adult Friend Finder, who will go to people and trade favors for things they want of rather good value, say for example if a company owned a content company as well and AFF might say, reduce my cost on this huge amount of content I just bought from you and in return I’ll send you a ton of new members through a cross sale deal.   The problem is AFF sends over fake sales.

So now the guy just gave AFF a huge discount, losing thousands of dollars on content in return for, nothing.  Actually worse than nothing, in return for a large number of chargebacks.

What AFF is doing is bullying new members into joining a series of websites, as many as 8 “FREE TRIALS” to activate their membership and talk to other members.  They promise, you won’t have to pay for anything, just join and then cancel right away.

See what they just did there?  Now website B just got themselves a whole bunch of members fraudulently.

How fucked up is that?

So before you sit down and consider making any deals with any Penthouse owned websites including Penthouse, Adult Friend Finder or Danni.com, just keep in mind this story you just heard because you could be the sucker who gets scammed by them next!
