Surfers Feel The Need … for Speed

How fast does a page load when you visit any particular website?  Research and years of experience has shown us that the faster a page loads, the happier the surfer is.  If your page takes to long to load the surfer is more likely to leave the page all together.

How fast is “fast”?  Well, marketing experts typically follow the 2 second rule – which simply means, anything over 2 seconds is 2 seconds to long.   Yes, that was meant to be a joke. 🙂  In common speak, your goal should be to get your web page to load in 2 seconds.

The pages on my Madelyn Marie website, on average take 2.7 seconds to load.  This is faster than 60% of sites.   This is good, because happy surfers are more likely to click on your banner ads.  But I could still improve my site performance by .7 to be at the ideal load time.  But overall you can see my site performs at above average.

So how do you know what your site is performing at?  That’s simple.  By now I’m sure you know of the many benefits of using Google Analytics.  Besides the obvious SEO perks, another benefit to using it is the site performance charts.

Log into your Google Analytics accounts, click LABS and then SITE PERFORMANCE to run your own site’s page load tests.

Good luck!
