Although I’ve spoken about this topic before, clearly some people aren’t listening so I’m going to try again only this time I’m going to speak to you in a language I think you can understand and that is the language of Paris Hilton.
Paris Hilton did a reality show for Fox. It was really popular and as great as it was, eventually it got canceled. Her contract with Fox is now null and void and she moves on to to do a television show for E! That last a year, maybe two but like all good things, they must come to an end and now that contract is over. Paris Hilton moved on and did a show for MTV Networks, something about having a new BFF. This lasted at least two years. During all of this time Paris Hilton launched at least one music album, a line of handbags, a very popular line of jewelry through Amazon and a separate line of clothes. And all the while she’s graced the covers and pages of more magazines than anyone could care to count.
Through all of these different contracts, each time one thing remained the same and that was the fact that she kept control of her name, her personal website and her myspace page. Sure typically bigger companies like MTV and even Fox have an entire marketing department that could have maintained these pages for her but instead she had her people do it. Why? Well if you have to ask that then you are probably one of those girls who do stupid shit like letting the bigger porn companies have more control over your name, your only true asset.
I went to a few girls to talk to them off the record and ask them why they agreed to things like letting a porn company rename them, running their myspace pages or controlling their trademarks and time and again I pretty much got the same answer and was that, it was just the way things were done or if they didn’t comply they feared the company in question wouldn’t sign them to a contract. Well you are dumb asses my friends. Your name is who you are and it is all you have in the end and if you let anyone else have any control over it, you always run the risk of losing it. Don’t be stupid. Protect your most valuable asset and that is your identity.
