Teens Busted For Sex In Public Library

Male Teen Charged With Criminal Sexual Abuse

(Northwest Herald) WOODSTOCK, Ill. The library is not usually considered a venue for sex, but two Woodstock residents were caught in the act at the Woodstock Public Library this week, a police official said.

Raul A. Tapia, 19, and a juvenile female were caught having consensual sex among the book stacks at 414 W. Judd St. around 5 p.m. Monday, said Woodstock Police Sgt. Richard Johns.

“Because of the vigilance of the library staff, they were seen by library staff and the police were notified,” Johns said.

Tapia, of 707 Oak St. in Woodstock, was charged Monday with criminal sexual abuse. His juvenile partner, a female from the Woodstock area, was not charged, Johns said.

“Because it’s a juvenile matter, the information is limited,” Johns said.

Antonio Calderon, a 16-year-old Woodstock High School student who was reading a magazine at the library Wednesday, said he was surprised to learn about what had allegedly happened there earlier in the week.

“Wow,” he said, looking stunned. “I’ve never heard of something like that before.”

The Woodstock Public Library was fairly quiet at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, but that was not usual for that time of night, said Assistant Library Director Jane Koehler.

On most weeknights, including Monday, the library is very busy between 3:30 and 7:30 p.m., Koehler said.

Police were not aware of any witnesses to the incident other than library staff, Johns said.

Library Director Maggie Crane was out of town Wednesdayfeb. 28 and not available for comment.

Tapia was booked into the McHenry County jail Monday and released on a $1,000 bond, Johns said. Tapia is scheduled to appear in court March 21.
