Fayner Posts: I wonder if Larry Flynt knows about this, as anyone who knows his past knows that when Jerry Falwell used Hustler in a memo they forgot to get permission and got sued for copyright infringement.
From Here: NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — A local mother said her young son got a lesson in more than mudslinging politics during a trip to the mailbox. She received a campaign flyer that used a touched-up version of the porn magazine Hustler. The flyer was paid for by Congressman Tom Feeney’s campaign.
Over the past week, more than 100,000 Central Floridians opened their mailboxes and pulled out the flyer and not all of them were thrilled by what they read.
The mailing features congressional candidate Clint Curtis’s head superimposed on what’s supposed to be the body of Playboy magazine publisher Hugh Heffner. It went out to 110,000 voters across Central Florida, including Dina from New Smyrna Beach.
"It’s not really something I want my 9-year-old walking out to the mailbox and bringing to me and asking me questions about," the mother said.
With references to sex, lies and politics, it took her a while to find the small print that said who sent mailer. It turned out it was Tom Feeney, the Republican incumbent Curtis is trying to beat.
"Don’t send smut to my mailbox," Dina said.
"She needs to know Clint Curtis is endorsed by smut-king Larry Flynt," Feeney said.
Feeney told Channel 9 he’s resorting to such tactics to "educate" voters about his opponent, who he said has made up story after story to discredit Feeney.
In one case, last month’s Hustler Magazine wrote about one of the allegations, that Feeney was involved in a suspicious death in Georgia. Alongside the article was an op-ed piece urging voters to choose Curtis.
"Voters in District 24 need to know," Feeney said.
But it all left a bad taste in Dina’s mouth. Not only had she never heard Curtis’s claims, she also had no idea who her congressman even was. Now she does and she isn’t impressed.
"How about sending what a politician can do for someone and what you stand for, because now all I have is negative thoughts that stick in my head because of what I read," she said.
Late Thursday afternoon, Eyewitness News spoke with Clint Curtis, who laughed when the picture of him on the flyer was described. He said he’s never met Larry Flynt or, for that matter, anyone at Hustler Magazine.
