A court in Dong Nai province handed down the verdict on 37 year-old Nguyen Thi Kim Phuong, spouse of lieutenant colonel Ta Van Kinh, former head of province’s social order and administrative control division. The court also sentenced Kinh’s nephew Duong Hoang Long to six years in jail. Long’s wife was levied the lightest penalty among the five convicted with a two and a half year suspended sentence. The disgraced police officer was removed from his post after the cybercafé in the province’s Bien Hoa city was raided in July last year. During the raid, police from the Ministry of Public Security caught seven minors and two children red-handed watching sex films at Phuong’s shop. Police found over 370 porn movies stored on the shop’s server computer which could be accessed from 64 client computers. Further investigation found out half of its daily 200 clients came only to watch porno movies, mainly young boys between 15 and 18. Neighbors said they had informed local police of the seedy establishment, but it continued to operate unscathed until the ministry jumped in. Reported by L.N. – Translated by Hoang Bao |
