ARPornTube has rolled out in-browser AR streaming across its entire passthrough porn library, giving headset users a quicker way to go from finding a scene to watching the performer in their own surroundings.
The new “Watch in AR” option does pretty much what the name suggests.
Browse the site, find a video you like, hit the button, and the video opens in immersive AR mode on a supported headset. You don’t need to download the video first, though downloads are still there for anyone who prefers them.
For a site dedicated entirely to passthrough porn, it’s a useful addition, particularly as the library continues to grow.
Find Something You Like and Jump Into AR
The biggest difference is how quickly someone can move from discovering a video to seeing it in passthrough.
Users can browse ARPornTube as they normally would, moving through performers, categories, and videos until something catches their attention. On the video page, selecting “Watch in AR” takes them straight into the immersive version when their headset is already set up for AR playback.
That makes browsing a large passthrough library much easier.
Depending on the length and resolution, individual video files on ARPornTube can range from around 100MB to well over 400MB.
Downloading still makes sense if someone wants to keep a particular video, but it isn’t necessarily something they want to do every time they’re curious about a new scene.
Streaming gives them another choice.
See something you like, watch it in AR, then move on to another video if you fancy something different.
Different Types of Passthrough Work Too
Not all passthrough porn is made in exactly the same way, which can make things slightly confusing for people discovering the format for the first time.
Some of the newer videos on ARPornTube use Alpha passthrough. With those scenes, hitting Watch in AR automatically removes the original background, leaving the performer visible within the viewer’s real surroundings.
In simple terms, put on the headset, and the performer can appear as though she’s standing in your room.
The site also carries chroma-key passthrough, where the same basic effect is created by removing a particular background color. Those videos can also be streamed through Watch in AR, although users may need to tweak the chroma settings in the player to get the effect looking right.
ARPornTube handles both, which is important considering its entire video library is focused on passthrough rather than conventional VR porn.
Downloads Aren’t Going Anywhere
The arrival of in-browser streaming doesn’t mean ARPornTube is abandoning downloads.
Every video can still be downloaded, and where studios provide different versions, users can choose between multiple resolutions.
That gives viewers both options.
Someone who knows exactly what they want and prefers keeping the video locally can download it as before. Someone who’s browsing and wants to jump straight into a scene can use Watch in AR instead.
According to ARPornTube founder Ash, having both options was important.
“The aim has always been to give passthrough users the best experience we can. Once the library grew to the size it is now, I felt in-browser AR streaming was something we
really needed. You can still download every video if that’s how you prefer to watch, but now you can also find something you like and jump straight into AR.”
A Growing Passthrough Library
One of the more interesting parts of the update is that Watch in AR isn’t being treated as a separate collection or an experimental feature available on a handful of videos.
It’s available across the site.
ARPornTube’s library has now passed 950 passthrough videos and counting, and new videos automatically receive the same streaming functionality as they’re published.
That means users don’t need to look for a special streaming category or figure out which videos support the feature. If it’s on ARPornTube, it’s part of the passthrough library and can be watched through the new setup.
The change also appears to be influencing how people use the site.
Since introducing Watch in AR, ARPornTube says it has seen improved visitor engagement and more time spent on the site.
That’s perhaps not surprising. When trying another scene no longer necessarily means downloading another file first, there’s less reason to stop browsing.
And that’s ultimately what the update changes.
ARPornTube already had hundreds of passthrough videos. Now exploring them feels much more immediate: find a performer or scene that catches your eye, hit “Watch in AR,” and see how she looks in your room.
