MORE ON ITALY’S CONTROVERSIAL NEW PORN TAX

IT MAKES SENSE THAT THE COUNTRY WHO STOLE PASTA FROM THE CHINESE SUPPORTS A GOVERNMENT WHICH INSTEAD OF THE PROMISE TO LOWER TAXES CHOOSES TO INVENT NEW AND EXCITING NEW ONES…

ACTUALLY, WE LOVE ITALY AND ALL ITALIANS AND EVERYTHING THEY STAND FOR, INCLUDING THE UNFAIR 25% TAX ON PORN WHICH BECAUSE OF US JUST NOW REALIZING LUKEFORD.COM OWNER AND EDITOR TAYLOR RAIN BEING OF THE ITALIAN FAITH SEEMS LIKE A VERY FAIR THING TO DO.

THAT IS ALL.

From The Economist Magazine

“It is not a crusade,” said Daniela Santanche, but “a contribution to the government’s commitment to rigor in the public accounts.”

Santanche, who hails from the right-wing National Alliance, had just succeeded in putting into Italy’s 2006 budget a stiff new tax on pornography and sex goods.

Manufacturers will have to pay a 25 percent surcharge on the profits made from the sale of everything from hard-core DVDs and magazines to pink furry handcuffs. Subscribers to television porn channels will also be hit with an extra 10 percent in value-added tax.

Silvio Berlusconi’s center-right government needs all the money it can lay its hands on. Italy’s budget deficit is well over the ceiling of 3 percent of GDP set by the euro-area’s stability pact. The 2006 budget, due to be adopted this week, tries optimistically to keep it under 3.8 percent.

Even so, few believe that Santanche’s amendment was inspired solely by fiscal prudence. Her party also has a puritanical streak. Yet few legislators have criticized the “porn tax” on these grounds.

One of the few half-dissenters was Roberto Maroni, a Northern League minister, who argued that “if the commercialization of a pornographic product is legal in the eyes of the government, there is no sense in taxing it more.”

He, and some others on the right, also object to the notion of a government that came to power promising lower taxes inventing new ones instead.

The finance ministry started out against. It worried that, in its original form of a sales tax, the porn levy might run into trouble in Brussels. However, officials have got more enthusiastic about the porn tax as it has become clear how much it might yield.

The latest official estimate is 150 million euro ($180 million) a year. But a study by the Eurispes research institute calculates that the porn industry in Italy made profits of around 1.1 billion euro ($1.3 billion) in 2004.

If rigorously applied, the new tax could thus net as much as 275 million euro ($326 million) a year — without counting in the extra from a last-minute change to extend the tax to profits from violent, as well as raunchy, DVDs.

Two questions remain. One is whether Italy’s tax collectors might find themselves mired in a quagmire of conflicting definitions.

One person’s pornography (or violence) can be the next person’s art. Will DVDs of Bernardo Bertolucci’s explicit 2003 movie, “The Dreamers,” be taxed, for example?

The other question is whether letting the taxman into Italians’ bedrooms might cost Berlusconi votes in the election that is due in a few months’ time.

Neither question would have bothered the two 15th-century popes who set the pattern for Italy’s newest impost by taxing the profits from prostitution in Rome.

WHAT’S THE WORLD COMING TO?

ANTI-SEMITIC PORNO JUNKIES RUNNING RAMPANT IN THE STREETS OF NEW YORK? SAY IT AIN’T SO…

From www.newyorkpost.com It’s a holiday heartbreaker for one Brooklyn synagogue: Burglars have broken into the house of worship seven times in the past two months, once downloading porn onto a computer used by elderly people.

The burglaries at the Congregation B’nai Israel of Midwood began in October, said the congregation’s president, Bernie Lazar.

In one incident, the prowlers downloaded pornography onto computers used by the senior citizens who visit the synagogue’s community center.

“They put porno on [a computer],” Lazar said. “Can you believe that?”

A volunteer discovered the lewd material.

It’s unclear whether the break-ins were committed by the same criminals, but in each instance, the thieves have stolen hundreds of dollars in cash and ransacked the synagogue, costing the facility thousands more in damages.

Security upgrades to keep the thugs out — which have been successful for almost two weeks — could cost as much as $10,000, Lazar said.

Officials do not think the burglaries are anti-Semitic and have not seen any graffiti accompanying the vile vandalism to the synagogue and community center.

Defiance Films Receives 6 Nominations for 2006 AVN Awards
Porn’s fastest growing upstart company honored by industry trade publication

Defiance Films(Chatsworth, Ca) – Defiance Films is pleased to announce that they have received 6 AVN nominations for the upcoming 23 rd annual AVN Awards Show in Las Vegas on Saturday, January 7th, 2006. The Awards show will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on at the Venetian Hotel Resort & Casino.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for all the hard work we have put in,” Keith O’Connor humbly explained. “We’ve only been shipping less than half of a year and already all the love our cast and crew have offered up is being noticed. I really am speechless.”

Among the handful of noteworthy nominations, Defiance has been nominated for Best New Video Production Company, an honor that means more to the company than all the rest.

“We’ve really tried to create something special with Defiance,” Head of Sales Anthony Simone offered. “We’re like a family. If one of us wins, we all win.”

Keith was quick to share similar feelings.

“All of our directors, performers, editors, photographers, graphic artists and production crews have played a part in putting Defiance on the map today. Each of them has played a part in growing this company into what it is today. In less than six months time, Defiance Films has become recognized and is synonymous with quality and class. For that reason I feel like we’ve already won. I’m both grateful and honored that AVN would consider us for these awards, and I am proud of all that we at Defiance have accomplished together.”

In addition Defiance contract directors Taylor Rain and Lauren Phoenix were both nominated for Female Performer of the Year as well. Shortly after the nominations were announced, Taylor Rain and Defiance began to hint at a special announcement coming from the starlet herself, but, as of yet, fans and friends are still anxiously awaiting word.

“It’s going to be big news about her career,” Keith coyly countered. “She’s the only one who can make the announcement. It’ll be worth the wait, trust me.”

The AVN Awards are achievement-based awards dedicated to recognizing the outstanding products and talented individuals that have contributed to the advancement of the adult entertainment industry. MICHAEL JACKSON ALLEGEDLY LASHES OUT AGAINST JEWS ON NEW TAPE

POSSIBLY ANGRY THAT JEWS HAVE NOSES

LOS ANGELES, California (AP ) — The Anti-Defamation League on Wednesday demanded an apology from Michael Jackson after ABC aired what was said to be a telephone answering-machine message in which the pop star referred to Jews as “leeches”

The message was supposedly recorded two years ago and has now surfaced in connection with a lawsuit against the pop star.

“Michael Jackson has an anti-Semitic streak and hasn’t learned from his past mistakes,” ADL director Abraham H. Foxman said in a statement. “It seems every time he has a problem in his life, he blames it on Jews.”

Jackson infuriated Jewish groups in 1995 when his song “They Don’t Care About Us” included the lyrics “Jew me, sue me, everybody do me, kick me, kike me.” Jackson apologized, saying the lyrics were meant to demonstrate the hatefulness of racism, anti-Semitism and stereotyping. He then changed the lyrics.

On Tuesday, ABC’s “Good Morning America” aired portions of a 2003 voice message that Jackson was alleged to have left for a former adviser, Dieter Wiesner.

A transcript provided by the office of attorney Howard King quotes Jackson as saying: “They suck them like leeches. … They start out the most popular person in the world, make a lot of money, big house, cars and everything and end up penniless. It’s a conspiracy. The Jews do it on purpose.”

Jackson spokeswoman Raymone K. Bain said Wednesday the singer had no comment. A call to Jackson’s attorney Thomas Mesereau was not immediately returned.

The message was among about a dozen released by King, who represents Wiesner and another former adviser who are locked in business disputes with the pop star and are suing him for millions. King said he released the messages to keep Jackson from appearing sympathetic in court.

Jackson, now living in the Persian Gulf kingdom Bahrain, was acquitted in June of molesting a boy at his Neverland ranch.

EX-WRITER FOR HIGH TIMES, HUSTLER, PENTHOUSE TO PEN MEMOIRS

Mike Edison has a sure-fire hook for his memoir: sex, drugs and journalism. Edison, former High Times editor and publisher and now the editor in chief of the revived Screw magazine, says his book will feature “more strippers, prowrestlers, porn stars, pranksters, potheads and punk rockers than have ever been assembled in one place.” So far, the list of well-known folks whose names will appear include Evel Knievel, Al Goldstein, Keith Richards and Snoop Dogg.
