What men really think about women’s pubic hair

When I first started in the adult industry nearly 20 years ago it was all about the bare pussy! Years later you started to see a few stars with a landing patch and then came Sasha Grey’s appearance on Entourage in 2010 and her super duper hairy bush changed everything in porn.

Now we have a variety of hairy private parts to choose from. Some girls shave a little, some girls have a patch and some girls go all bare down there.

But the real question is, what do mean really prefer?

Turns out Huffington Post and AskMen.com teamed up to conduct a survey. They asked over 5,000 guys what they thought.

Turns out that 41% of men prefer it to be fully shaved or a Brazilian (the little landing strip). While only 5% prefer the all natural look.

Sasha Grey talks about her role in the movie turned TV series, The Girlfriend Experience

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been getting a surprisingly steady stream of e-mails and Twitter mentions from people who want to know if they’re going to be seeing me on the new Starz series The Girlfriend Experience. The answer is no…and that’s a good thing. For a lot of reasons. But let me not get ahead of myself.

The Starz series takes its title and its premise from The Girlfriend Experience, a 2009 film directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Sasha Grey, who was making her first move out of XXX movies here, with her role as a high-end New York call girl. I had a small but pivotal role in the movie as a character who called himself “The Erotic Connoisseur,” the majordomo of an escort-review site. My sleazy character tries to extort sex out of Grey’s escort, and then gives her a witheringly bad review for her troubles. I was one of the movie’s bad guys, in other words.

In interviews, the principals of the series have emphasized more than once that all it shares with the movie is the title, the premise, and the nom de guerreof the high-end-escort main character (Chelsea). So that should be enough to explain my non-return, flattering as these inquiries have been.

Another reason I’m not in the television show should be self-evident: I’m not an actor. I’m a writer, one who mostly makes his living as a film critic, and I like that. The Starz series, which is executive produced by Soderbergh, features a cast that’s stacked with superb actors drawn from film and television. While if you look at the IMDB page for the movie, unless you’re a real showbiz maven, Grey’s name is the only one that stands out. And, as it happens, she’s the only cast member who had any training in acting. (No wisecracks from the porn-savvy peanut gallery, please.)

Although the GFE film was shot only eight years ago, there’s a sense in which it’s from another era—an era in which the notion of a “digital film” was a complete novelty. GFE was the second so-called “digital film” that Soderbergh made for producers Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban. The idea was that these features would be shot quickly and cheaply and distributed on a variety of platforms, simultaneously—theatrical and pay-per-view. Sounds a lot like what the current indie scene looks like today, and there’s still a lot being figured out at the business end, but between 2005, when Soderbergh made the first film for Wagner and Cuban, Bubble, and 2009, when GFE came out, it still seemed kind of nuts to people.

The makers of GFE had the freedom to put it together in an unusual way, and they did. Writers Brian Koppelman and David Levien put together a scenario, less than 20 pages long, I’m told. But only the lead actor, Grey, who’s in all the scenes, got to use it. The rest of the cast, mostly men, were recruited by the filmmakers, given their character outlines/assignments, and some research notes. I was told to look at “hobbyist” websites reviewing escorts, and boy did I get grossed out. I eventually got wardrobe notes, too. Then I’d show up at the set and have the scene outlined for me, and then improvise. One phone call was particularly excruciating—I literally had to wear Grey down to the point where she would agree to meet with my character, and she did not make it easy for me. Because most of the scenes in the movie are one-on-one interactions between Grey’s character “Chelsea” and a man—what theater people call “two-handers”—none of the other cast members met each other, or knew how they fit into the big picture. I only heard a little backstage stuff because David Levien, who also ended up acting in the picture, and I were able to compare notes briefly at a bar mitzvah we both attended.

My participation in the movie got a lot of notice from my fellow critics, in part because of the outlandishness of my character, but also because I was, to them, a known quantity—they got a kick out of seeing one of their own in a movie, and a Steven Soderbergh movie at that. But I’m hardly the only noteworthy person in the cast. Almost every part is filled by someone in the Soderbergh/Koppelman/Levien network, and the parts correspond in some ways to the personalities. The character who goes by the name “Sugar,” for instance—who indirectly encourages Chelsea to play ball with the Erotic Connoisseur—is played by Michael Sugar, who then was Steven Soderbergh’s manager. Michael has since branched out into production—you may have seen him accepting an Oscar for Spotlight at this year’s Academy Awards. The character who plays the high-roller who takes the escort’s boyfriend on a rich-bro excursion to Vegas is played by Peter Zizzo, a longtime music industry player who’s a great songwriter and producer—a buddy of Brian Koppelman’s from Brian’s days in the music industry. One of Sasha’s character’s more awkward clients is played by director Dan Algrant (Greetings From Tim Buckley). The cynical journo who interviews Chelsea is Mark Jacobson, a writer I’ve admired since first reading him in the Village Voice in the mid-‘70s. (These are not tales out of school, incidentally; any curious person can follow the IMDB links to all this info!) They’re all great guys, but when I did my scenes for the movie I had no idea they were in it. Meeting them all at the movie’s premiere in 2009 was like going to a high school reunion of people you only knew from having seen on screen a couple of hours before, if that makes any sense.

The movie was shot during the late part of the 2008 presidential campaign, and newspapers were on the set to encourage actors to talk about what was going on as they improvised their dialogue. The movie is, among other things, a mordantly comedic time-capsule drama, while the TV series, written and directed by Amy Seimetz and Lodge Kerrigan, has the tone of a coolly erotic, dread-filled thriller. I’m still friendly with my colleagues from the movie, and root for everything they do (including Koppelman and Levien’s Showtime series Billions) so I can’t really offer any kind of official, non-compromised critique of the series. But my subjective take is, I dig it, and I think it’s totally worth a watch. And as I said, it’s got an amazing cast of professional actors, starting with lead Riley Keough. It doesn’t need an Erotic Connoisseur—this series’ main character can find her own trouble, trust me.

The Hottest 100 Women of All Time?

What do Sasha Grey, Cindy Crawford, Denise Richards, Marilyn Monroe and Jenna Jameson have in common?  They were all on the top 100 hottest woman of all time list by Men’s Health magazine [source].  Sasha Grey and Jenna Jameson are the only two porn stars who made the list.  Actually come to think of it, I can’t believe they actually put not one, but two porn stars on the hottest 100 women of all time list!

85. Sasha Grey

Sure, Jenna Jameson is a household name, and other San Fernando Valley starlets occasionally pop up in mainstream Hollywood productions, but Sasha Grey may be the first true star to cross over from the realm of porn. Her darkly sultry (and silicone-free) looks fall comfortably between girl-next-door and girl-on-the-stripper-pole. And while Grey’s recurring role as herself on HBO’s Entourage wasn’t exactly a stretch, her turn as a high-end prostitute in Steven Soderberg’s The Girlfriend Experience earned generous praise from critics like Roger Ebert. Who says Hollywood can’t respect an actress who has sex on camera?

49. Jenna Jameson

It’d be easy to write off Jenna Jameson as nothing more than a porn queen who had her moment. Look closely (we know it won’t be difficult), however, and you’ll realize the platinum-blonde adult entertainer has a remarkable amount of business savvy for somebody who earned most of her living in flagrante. Want proof? In 2000, near the height of the dot-com boom, Jameson founded ClubJenna, an X-rated video service that shot and produced its own material. The success of that venture made Jameson a millionaire. She’s also hosted a reality show on Playboy TV, made a cameo on Family Guy, and wrote a best-selling memoir, 2004’s How to Make Love Like a Porn Star. We’re still waiting on the adaptation, Hollywood.

The top 10 list includes …

  1. Jennifer Aniston
  2. Raquel Welch
  3. Marilyn Monroe
  4. Britney Spears
  5. Madonna
  6. Ursula Andress
  7. Bettie Page
  8. Pamela Anderson
  9. Jane Fonda
  10. Angelina Jolie

Was the Sasha Grey scandal really just a publicity stunt?

I got an email today but I want to be clear, I don’t know if it is true.  So let’s consider this an unfounded rumor.

Hope you don’t believe all the bullshit you are reading about Sasha Grey. It was all a well crafted, very planned out stunt to get her in the news.

The email rambles on a bit and then goes on to say that since she quite making movies a few years ago to pursue more artistic endeavors, the mainstream world hasn’t been beating a path to her door as she had once thought they might.  This anonymous insider claims that life after porn for Sasha wasn’t quite as wonderful as she thought it was going to be.

But he also says this recent publicity stunt wasn’t her idea however she did go along with it. Someone in her camp came up with a seemingly innocent way to get her name in the news again and that was by reading to children. They knew it would be a controversy and this source even goes on to claim it was one of her inner circle that first placed a call to the school to complain and then right after to the LA Times to say parents were calling the school in outrage. When the LA Times didn’t act fast enough they turned to other media outlets like TMZ.

I don’t know if anything is anonymous source says is true but if it is, it worked. Sasha Grey reading to children is all everyone was talking about yesterday. And can you really blame her for wanting to be more famous?  It’s not like other people haven’t done similar things in the past like faked leaked sex tapes or calling in tips to the paparazzi that they’ll be at certain locations.

Really pulling a publicity stunt like this makes her more mainstream just by having done it in the first place.  So kudos to her.

Go get your famous on Sasha!  We support ya girl!

The Top 20 Most Google’d Porn Stars

There are a lot of ways to determine the popularity of a porn star.  Some say it should be based on how popular their website is, or how many movies they have been in or how many magazines they have been on the cover of or how many awards they have won.   I personally think that popularity is about the fans.  The more fans you have, the more popular you are.  That makes sense, right?  Well how do you figure out who has the most fans?  A site like Fame Registry helps us do just that.  Each month they produce a variety of reports, one of which tells us which porn stars are most active in terms of searches. So who are the most Google’d porn stars?  Lisa Ann of course!  But what is quite surprising is that Alexis Texas comes in second.  I knew she was rather popular but I didn’t realize that much.

Another big surprise, to me at least, is that new comer Capri Anderson out performers Tera Patrick.

  1. Lisa Ann with 17,072 searches
  2. Alexis Texas with 12,707 searches
  3. Jesse Jane with 12,578 searches
  4. Tori Black with 12,516 searches
  5. Jenna Haze with 11,785 searches
  6. Sasha Grey with 11,155 searches
  7. Eva Angelina with 11,023 searches
  8. Sara Jay with 10,607 searches
  9. Katie Morgan with 9,854 searches
  10. Bree Olson with 9,471 searches
  11. Audrey Bitoni with 9,431 searches
  12. Nikki Benz with 9,121 searches
  13. Shyla Stylez with 8,797 searches
  14. Capri Anderson with 8,414 searches
  15. Carmella Bing with 8,391 searches
  16. Tera Patrick with 8,338 searches
  17. Amy Reid with 8,319 searches

The Most Popular Porn Stars

Popularity in the porn industry is often fleeting. Some performers experience a meteoric rise and fall in the course of a year. Others connect with the audience on a different level and manage a multi-year ride at the top.  Though there is no real formula for success in this industry, these 12 performers have proven to be more than just a flash in the pan, with tremendous staying power over the past few years. What’s more there are no signs their careers are in danger of waning anytime soon.

So, with the industry’s annual expo underway in Las Vegas Jan. 6-9, we’ve assembled porn’s dirty dozen—the most popular porn stars, based on our reporting and analysis.   By Chris Morris, Special to CNBC.com

Ashlynn Brooke

Brooke has been working in adult films for nearly five years, earning multiple award nominations. She also appeared in last year’s “Piranha 3D,” which has helped escalate her earlier porn films.   These days, however, she’s focusing more on work behind the camera, directing parody-film versions of “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Wonder Woman”.

Jenna Haze

The 28-year-old Haze is arguably the most popular performer in the porn today. She has been nominated for the “Female Performer of the Year” award for three years running at the AVN Awards (porn’s equivalent of the Oscars).   Haze also picked up a similar nomination at the 2009 Xbiz Awards. Meanwhile, she is one of the most popular stars with members of the Adult Entertainment Broadcast Network (AEBN) – the industry’s largest Internet video on demand provider.

Jesse Jane

Jane is, for many, the face of modern porn. She was one of the top-line stars of the smash “Pirates” films (two of the biggest porn movies of all time).   Jane is also hosting this year’s AVN red-carpet ceremony and received performer of the year nods in 2009 and 2010. She’s nominated for the same category in this year’s Xbiz Awards, which she will also host.

Lisa Ann

The 38-year-old Lisa Ann had a run in the 1990s as a porn actress, but quit in 1997, eventually returning as an agent. In 2008, though, her meteoric rise to fame came when she portrayed Sarah Palin in a porn parody. She has since gone on to be one of the most popular on-demand stars with AEBN.

Evan Stone

Ron Jeremy is the industry’s most famous male performer, but 46-year old Stone could be his successor. His sense of humor makes him one of the most popular leading men in the industry among female performers – and fans enjoy a male actor who doesn’t take himself too seriously.

Tori Black

A three-year veteran of the industry with more than 200 films under her belt, Black began as a Penthouse Pet. She won 2010’s AVN performer of the year award and is nominated again in 2011. The story’s the same with the Xbiz Awards. And, like Haze, Black is one of the top stars at AEBN. Among her highlights in 2010 was a spin as Catwoman in Vivid’s incredibly popular “Batman XXX: A Porn Parody”.

Bobbi Starr

A finalist in “America’s Next Hot Porn Star,” Starr failed to win the 2007 pay-per-view reality show, but that hasn’t slowed her rise. She has racked up more than half a dozen awards and may be the industry’s next crossover star, having been cast in the upcoming film “Drive” with Ryan Gosling, Albert Brooks and Christina Hendricks.

Lexi Belle

One of the younger superstars of the industry at 23, Belle has earned top-performer nods for two years running from AVN and Xbiz. She is, perhaps, even more popular with the Web audience, which has made her website one of the biggest in the industry.

Kayden Kross

Kross has been a contract star with both of the production firms Adam & Eve and Digital Playground, making her one of today’s most in demand stars. She will cohost this year’s AVN red carpet with Jesse Jane and is nominated for best performer for the second consecutive year.

Belladonna

While Belladonna appears to be stepping back from performing in porn films, this 29-year old actor/director/producer has one of the most loyal fan bases in the industry. Both straight men and lesbian women have kept Belladonna among the most popular stars – even when she shaved her head. She has been nominated for 42 AVN awards (and won 10) through the course of her career.

Sasha Grey

Grey’s not actively making porn films at the moment, but her push into mainstream acting – including a lead role in Steven Soderbergh’s 2008 film “The Girlfriend Experience”, and a recurring role on HBO’s “Entourage” – has kept her porn works popular. Several companies are also putting out compilation titles with select scenes of her uninhibited past, which fans continue to buy.

Joanna Angel

Like Belladonna, Angel owns her studio – meaning she makes money from sales, not just performances. The punk look she and her actors share has given rise to a new segment in the industry, dubbed alt porn.

Has Sasha Grey Left Porn Behind?

Sasha Grey Swaps Sex For Spinning Discs and More Mainsteam Roles

(Radar Online) – The porn star who appeared naked and hairy on Entourage and starred in the mainstream film The Girlfriend Experience is turning her back on the XXX biz for a life on the silver screen – and in the DJ booth.

Sasha Grey, 22, recently starred as herself as the new girlfriend of Vinnie Chase on HBO’s hit series Entourage, a performance that has helped elevate her within the industry and land new roles, including the recently-wrapped I Melt With You.

This month’s Playboy cover model spoke exclusively to RadarOnline.com about her creative life after porn.

“Filming I Melt With You was such a powerfully intense experience, amplified by the atmosphere of shooting in Big Sur, California,” Sasha told RadarOnline.com.

“The power, pain and beauty of all of the characters is really going to make the audience connect… I really can’t wait to see a final cut!”

The film, directed by Mark Pellington, is about sex, drugs, pain and madness and she co-stars with Entourage pal Jeremy Piven, Rob Lowe, Thomas Jane and Christian McKay.

“Pellington is really an actor’s director; he gave each of us our own moments, and I’m very appreciative of that!” Sasha explained.

Sasha has also added spinning to her repertoire of talents.

She has been on the DJ circuit in North America and recently worked The Drake in Toronto during the Toronto Film Festival.

“Over the past few years, I’ve built a special connection with my fans and our love for diverse music,” said Sasha.

“In each set, I always try to play a few songs for people that come to the club just to hear what I am playing, and it truly makes their night!

“It’s really great to have a visceral connection with your fans that transcends the flavor of the moment.

“For instance, mixing Slayer with James Brown!”

And she even finds the time for her love of music as the lead singer of her band aTelecine, that will be releasing its second full-length album in the fall of 2010.

If that doesn’t keep her busy enough, Sasha’s photography book Neu Sex is expected to be released at the end of 2010

Congrats to Sasha Grey

Sasha Grey will be gracing the October 2010 cover of Playboy magazine. But to make the deal even sweeter, she’ll be the first pornstar to make the magazine’s cover. But if you’ll notice, Playboy tags her as “Entourage’s” Sasha Grey, not “Pornstar” Sasha Grey for her guest stint on the HBO show. I found that very interesting; she’s a pornstar, everyone knows she’s a pornstar, so why not just admit it!!

Pretty little liars

Pretty little liars is the Melrose Place/90210 of present day. If you haven’t heard of the show you need to check it out. These chicks are HOT. I sure don’t remember the girls in my high school looking like this! But as I was watching the show I couldn’t help but think they look so much like younger versions of already famous hot chicks. And even like some famously hot porn stars. Look at the gallery and you be the judge.

First up  is Troian Bellisario. I think she looks just like Madeline Stowe only younger, and maybe even a little like Ann Marie Rios.

Now Lucy Hale looks so much like pornstar Sasha Grey. Her little sister perhaps?

The actress Ashley Benson is a dead ringer for American Pie’s Tara Reid. A lot of her pictures don’t capture this, but watching her on the show I couldn’t stop thinking of Tara Reid, hell they even sound alike! And her pornstar counterpart? Maybe Katie Morgan?

The girl that plays Allison on the show is cute little Sasha Pieterse, although she is a bitch from hell on the show. I think she is a younger version of the sexy Denise Richards. The hair and mouth are so similar they could really be related. And when she grows up,  maybe she can be the next Riley Steele.

Now Shay Mitchell is definitely got the Pussy Cat Dolls vibe going on. Doesn’t she resemble Nicole Scherzinger! She could also be the fabulously sexy Tera Patrick’s sister!
