How to celebrate Valentine’s Day in a long distance relationship

Your loved one lives hundreds of miles away from you? Or your significant other was suddenly sent on a business trip, and now you have to celebrate Valentine’s Day alone? No need to worry, there is always an opportunity to rectify the situation.

Spending Saint Valentine’s Day at a long distance can be quite a difficult challenge for couples. Most of us would obviously like to be with our companions this day. However, there are different situations, and sometimes we can’t spend this holiday with them. Even if you don’t like Valentine’s Day, being alone when so many couples are walking around the city is definitely not the right choice. Well, what to do then and how to celebrate together while being far from each other? This article provides a few ways to spend this romantic day, even at a long distance from your loved one.

1) Arrange a romantic dinner at a distance

Ask your significant other to organize a dinner together with the help of Skype or another service. Be sure to cook the same dishes, discuss the scheduled time of the date and get your camera ready.

2) Prepare some love letters in advance

Although we’re used to communicating via messaging, social networks or using email, try something that has been forgotten, but still very romantic – paper letters! Write how much you love your soul mate, pour a few drops of perfume on your letter, as our mothers and grandmothers did, and send it. Worried that your message will not arrive on time? This problem can be easily solved. Write it in advance and give it to a friend/neighbor/colleague, who will be able to deliver the message to your loved one on this designated day.

You also can fill the envelopes with small gifts and some wishes that will help your significant other feel better while you’re far. Specify when the letter should be opened (for example, write “open when you’re sad” or “open if you miss me”).

3) Prepare a jar with goodies and wishes

Before leaving your loved one, give her/him a jar of goodies. Attach a piece of paper with a small wish to each candy and tell to take one every time she/he will think of you. It will definitely put your second half in a good mood!

4) Have a phone talk

If you can’t talk to each other during the day, discuss the time for romantic conversation that suits you both in advance. It’s also nice to make your loved one an unexpected surprise by calling earlier. Your voice will warm a loving heart for sure. You can have a night phone talk about how you’re going to spend time together after you get back home.

5) Prepare a gift that will be associated with you

It can be a cute souvenir or something practical, such as a scarf or sweatshirt. You can give her/him a present the same way as a letter – send by mail or give it to your friend.

The best gift, of course, will be your arrival. That’s why, if you have the opportunity to do so, be sure to use it.

Valentine’s Day should not be the only occasion for a special romantic atmosphere. Try to arrange as many romantic evenings to one another as possible because you love each other, right?
