Godaddy Ups Renewal Fess for dot COMs Again!

I got an email today informing me that I have to renew one of my dot com domain names. The first thing I noticed is that they yet again increased in price to $14.99 per year plus if you do not renew your domain(s) during the 12-day Renewal Grace Period, you may incur a fee of $80.00 in addition to the domain renewal fee. During this time, the domain name(s) will be moved to parked nameservers and any website or email services associated with the domain name(s) may stop working.

$14.99 per year to renew a dot com, really? Which is a $2 increase over the previous rates of $12.99 per dot com and and the previous rate before of $8.99. So basically within a calendar year they’ve had two rate increases, from $8.99 to $14.99.

Godaddy really gained in popularity because of their low rates. When they first came to be, Network Solutions was charging us each $35 per year per dot com. At the time, GoDaddy came in and said, move to us and we’ll only charge you $5.95. Eventually other cheap domain companies have come about but due to some creative Superbowl ads, GoDaddy has really remained the king for awhile now.

I just wonder with all the other godaddy issues will they start to lose customers now with the continued rate increases?
