I wonder, who is really the bigger force? Does the Porn Industry follow Hollywood, like with parodies from major studio movies, or does Hollywood follow the Porn Industry, like with home video and Internet downloads?

While the studios hesitate, the adult film industry is taking the leap. Vivid Entertainment says it will sell its adult films through the online movie service CinemaNow, allowing buyers to burn DVDs that will play on any screen, not just a computer.
It’s another first for adult film companies that pioneered the home video market and rushed to the Internet when Hollywood studios still saw it as a threat.
CNBC reported that the Adult Industry is a leading force in 3-D technology and stated,
Porn companies might be the reason VCRs and DVDs became staples in American households as fast as they did.
Reuters reported in 2007 about just how powerful the porn industry is:
James McQuivey, a principal analyst at technology research firm Forrester, said in the VHS-versus-Betamax war, porn provided a significant boost for the winning format.
He also noted the adult entertainment industry has often paved the way with new uses of technology — such as streaming video on the Internet — and said porn could help tip the scales in the current DVD format battle.
“If the porn industry wanted to break the logjam of HD-DVD and Blu-ray, it could,” McQuivey said. “If they said ‘We are going to go with HD-DVD’ you would see a few million homes immediately go out and buy HD-DVD players. They have that power.”
And what about the the latest article in the New York Times, which talks about how porn is moving away from dialogue and scripts and more into “short” scenes and even “themed” releases. So is the adult film industry following Hollywood, or what the public wants. Will we see Hollywood move towards this trend, too? In a way we have seen this change in Television with the rise in “Reality T.V.” No scripts, no writers, just live action.
I have come to the conclusion that the adult industry is definitely a leader in the film making business (no matter what kind of movie it is) and they are a true force to be reckoned with. Never underestimate the power of PORN!
