Aphrodisiacs … The Food of Love — Real facts about getting you horny

I decided to continue the FUN SEX FACTS series but take some of them in a different way.  Today’s FUN SEX FACTS is about sex, but about the food that makes us want to have sex!  Over time I will be adding more to this guide to include fruits and other foods.

The term aphrodisiac is at least 5,000 years old derived from the Greek goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite. Any substance that is intended to stimulate desire, increase pleasure or improve physical performance during sex is regarded as aphrodisiac.

An aphrodisiac is called the food of love as it has some property that helps get you in the mood for love or can enhance your sexual performance. Most wives and girlfriends will tell you that communication is the ultimate aphrodisiac but most men prefer a the more practical approach of unseen chemical compounds doing their thing behind the scenes.

The Cayenne pepper contains a very high amount of vitamin C and an exciting agent that stimulates the circulation. Little red and green Mexican chilies are known to have the same property.

Cayenne contains a pungent resin-like substance known as capsaicin. This chemical relieves pain and itching by affecting sensory nerves. Capsaicin temporarily causes various neurotransmitters to release from these nerves, leading to their depletion. Without the neurotransmitters, pain signals can no longer be sent. Not to worry however, this effect is only temporary.

It is common for people to experience pleasurable and even euphoric effects from eating capsaicin-flavored foods. Folklore among self-described “pepperheads” attributes this to pain-stimulated release of endorphins, a different mechanism from the local receptor overload that makes capsaicin effective as a topical analgesic.

Celery — yes, I actually mean celery as in what you probably have in your frig right now.   It’s so common you wouldn’t normally associate it with the food of Gods but in fact, with Celery there is more than meets the eye as it is known to contain androstenone – which is a steroid that when given to female animals in heat, have been known to make them more sexually aggressive. Some suggest that female humans may have the asme result. Also in humans androstenone is used as a pheromone.

Cloves are in fact one of the most powerful natural aphrodisiacs. Cloves contain eugenol that is fragrant, aromatic and effective against mental and physical fatigue as well as memory loss has also been highly regarded. But most of all it is considered as a powerful enhancing agent to sexual feelings.

Eugenol is responsible for the aroma of cloves. It is the main component in the essential oil extracted from cloves. Western studies have supported the use of cloves and clove oil for dental pain, and to a lesser extent for fever reduction, as a mosquito repellent and to prevent premature ejaculation. There is also evidence to support the fact that Cloves may reduce blood sugar levels.

I should warn you though not to take to much as overdose is possible, causing a wide range of symptoms including blood in your urine, convulsions, diarrhea, nausea, unconsciousness, dizziness, or rapid heartbeat.
