US President George W. Bush on Monday said he was deeply saddened by the death of a motorcycle police officer killed in a crash while serving in the White House security detail. The officer, Germaine Casey, was killed earlier Monday as Bush’s motorcade headed back to the airport in Albuquerque, New Mexico, after a political fundraiser for Republican Senator Pete Domenici.
“I am deeply saddened by his death and extraordinarily grateful for his protection,” Bush said in a statement released after another political fundraiser here.
“It is a high calling to choose to serve and protect your fellow citizens, and I will always be indebted to Officer Casey’s service,” said the president.
“He leaves behind his wife Lisa and their two children. They are in my thoughts and prayers. May God comfort the Casey family and his fellow law enforcement officials,” said Bush.
