SANTA FE — Parishioners say pornography and prayer don’t mix.
Investigators in Santa Fe are trying to figure out who played sexually explicit audio recordings during an Ash Wednesday service.
It was an apparent prank few are finding funny.
Three CD boom boxes played audio recordings apparently taken from a pornographic movie at about noon during the Ash Wednesday service at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi.
A woman we spoke with who was there says she saw another lady leave apparently crying.
“I can’t believe people out there are doing this in such a holy time,such a blessed time,” Laura Mae Trujillo of Chimayó said. “I think people out there are sick.”
The bomb squad came, and, in part because the boom boxes had been duct-taped under the pews, the explosives experts blew up two of them out of concern they could have been makeshift bombs.
One is left untouched, and police are trying to lift fingerprints and DNA from the evidence.
