Hermon, NY woman pleads guilty to sex charge

A Hermon woman plead guilty Tuesday in St. Lawrence County court to sex charges stemming from a three-way tryst with a teen girl.
32-year-old Valerie A. Cleveland and 31-year-old Joseph France were arrested in May of this year on criminal sex act, rape, and child endangerment charges after they had allegedly plied a 16-year-old girl with alcohol and marijuana before having sex with her. Cleveland allegedly performed oral sex on the teen prior to France having intercourse with her.
Cleveland plead guilty to one count of 3rd degree Criminal Sexual Act and was released under the supervision of probation by judge Richards. She is to be sentenced January 29th to an expected 1 ½ to 3 years in prison. Cleveland had earlier plead guilty to a lesser charge of Sexual Misconduct, but that plea was thrown out when it was learned that Cleveland had two prior felony convictions for cocaine possession and welfare fraud. State law prohibits the reduction of a felony by plea when the person has other felony convictions.
France still has charges of 3rd degree Rape and Endangering the Welfare of a Child pending against him.
