PORN SLIPPING ON THE WEB TOO

Business replaces sex as top web search: study

Business and e-commerce have overtaken sex and pornography in Australia and the United States as the most searched for topics on the Internet.

More than 20 million search sessions were analysed as part of the Queensland University of Technology study.

Professor Amanda Spink says the demographics of people who use search engines has changed, as well as what they are searching for.

"Back in the 90s it was probably a male geek-led web search world," she said.

"So you had more people searching for entertainment, sex and porn and in the 2000s it’s all mum and dad searching and business searching.

"Now people are looking for information about e-commerce and business, medical issues and travel and so the whole sex and porn thing has really declined as a proportion of the web."
