Man Convicted Of Child Sex Abuse Arrested

Prosecutor Calls Evidence Against Man ‘Overwhelming’

A man who has a record of child sex abuse faces new allegations of abusing a young boy.

David Mentzer, 51, faces charges in the alleged fondling of an 11-year-old boy while his wife taught piano lessons in another room.

Assistant Harford County State’s Attorney Diane Adkins Tobin called the evidence against Mentzer overwhelming. According to the court documents, Mentzer has admitted to touching and fondling the boy. Authorities arrested him on Tuesday.

WBAL-TV 11 News reporter Lowell Melser reported Mentzer remains held without bond on one count of sexual abuse of a minor and counts of sex offense in the third- and fourth-degrees.

According to court documents, the alleged abuse took place in a home in the 2500 block of Lincrest Road in Joppa.

Mentzer is accused of six, and possibly seven, occasions over the past three months. The boy alleged Mentzer used his hand to fondle the boy’s genitals while he waited to take piano lessons.

Court documents show Mentzer has a prior sex offense conviction in Harford County dating back to 1987 that involved a 14-year-old boy, and a separate conviction from 1981 in Kentucky.

WBAL-TV sought comment from Mentzer’s family, but no one was available at the house.
